MAKING USER STORY LIFE
In this exercise we will make a new scenario based upon a story that everybody knows. In this training we will use the fairytale of Little Red Riding Hood. This method has been used to work on scenes for theater pieces together with a group.
3 rounds:
- experience
- observator
- execute
First let’s look how the fairytale is build up, the characters, the locations, the props, the main events.
Characters:
A young person dressed in striking clothes
A frightening/evil character
An older person who has problems
The helper, who suddenly appears and solves all problems
Props
Something the young person is carrying for the older person
A tool the helper needs to solve the problem
Locations
An everyday location where suddenly things go wrong
A place linked to the older person
Events (to be composed in collaboration with the whole group)
Describe the begin situation
The young character meets the evil character, what happens
Serious trouble, what happens
The helper solves it all, how
Basic approach:
Make a new story together inspired by “Little Red Riding Hood”
What is it about, who are the characters, what do they look like, how does it end?
Keep in mind:
Everybody should feel safe
Every idea is a good idea
All should contribute
If we can make a story with a beginning and an end we are successful as a group.
To succeed sometimes the participants have to be flexible.
Questions to discus:
What skills did we need to fulfill this task together?
What can we say about the roles people played when working on the scenario.
How can we document these skills in a portfolio?
Could we work on all employability skills in a game like this?
